The Studios at Burnt Canoe

The Studios at Burnt Canoe provide a private workspace for artists and creatives, small businesses, remote workers, hobbyists and more. Our studios are a place to allow yourself to flourish creatively, to have a dedicated space to focus on work and to network with other professionals. Burnt Canoe Studio is a community of makers, thinkers, dreamers, and doers.

WOODWORKING AND DESIGN

Burnt Canoe, our 2,500 sqft woodshop, specializes in custom woodworking and design work utilizing acrylic and metal. While our focus is on crafting handmade heirloom furniture pieces, we also offer custom framing, laser engraving, and laser cutting services. Our goal is to make inspired and long lasting pieces out of the highest quality materials.

WHY BURNT CANOE?

The name Burnt Canoe comes from a real dugout canoe, found charred and weathered in the Louisiana swamps by our co-founder Otway’s grandfather in the 1950s. He brought the canoe’s two halves back to the family cabin, where they’ve stood ever since — a quiet testament to resilience and history. That cabin became a creative haven for both Otway and Hannah, a place rooted in story, imagination, and possibility.

But Burnt Canoe also stands for something bigger.

Since ancient times, leaders like Sun Tzu, Hernán Cortés, and Julius Caesar have told their followers to burn the boats — a bold declaration that there’s no turning back. It’s a call to commit fully, to chase your dream without a Plan B.

That’s what Burnt Canoe Studio is for us — a dream we've chosen to pursue with everything we have. We’ve burned our canoe, and there’s only one path forward.

With the Studios at Burnt Canoe, we hope to create space for others to do the same — to take the leap, trust their voice, and build something bold. Onward.

The Studios at Burnt Canoe

The second floor of Burnt Canoe boasts eight unique, private studios: Banks, Bernadotte, St. Patrick, Olympia, Murat, Alexander, Hennessey, and Solomon. Cost of lease includes all bills paid including Wi-Fi. The studios are filled with natural light, original flooring and access to large sinks. We have three studio spaces available with adjoining doors allowing for double the space if needed. Just to clarify: these can be single studios (Bernadotte, St. Patrick, Olympia, Murat, Alexander and Hennessey) or three larger (Bernadotte with St. Patrick , Olympia with Murat, Alexander with Hennessey). St. Patrick has a private kitchenette and bathroom with a shower. There are indoor communal spaces, a kitchen, bathrooms with a shower, coin operated laundry, as well as an outdoor courtyard with seating.

As a tenant, you will have 24 hour access to your studio and the community spaces. While this low-traffic, dead-end section of Banks street has ample parking, we do have a driveway available for loading as well as a building security system in place and locking doors on your personal studio.

We understand that with a variety of mediums and uses for the space come a variety of needs. While our main goal is to provide you with a blank canvas, we are willing to discuss “building to suit” so that your space is what you need it to be.

Our in house wood shop offers a discount on framing and laser cutting and engraving services to all tenants.
