Otway Denny IV

Otway Denny IV is a custom woodworker, designer, and co-owner of Burnt Canoe Studio. With a passion that turned from hobby to career, Otway crafts heirloom furniture with soul. Otway enjoys working with a range of materials from fine wood to acrylic and metal. He has a way with reclaimed materials, creating pieces that make a statement and invoke emotions. Whether he works with something you have already or something he finds himself on one of his many excursions, it’s sure to become an integral part of your home.

Creating “Something from Nothing” is Otway’s long time motto. He is driven by the goal to motivate others, not only himself, to keep thinking, to keep creating, and to keep going; to inspire fellow humans to pursue greatness, to embody the tenacity and initiative that will lead us to a brilliant future, and to do it all with style, of course.

The expansion of Burnt Canoe Studio has transitioned the company from being a workspace for Otway to a community of like-minded creatives. For Otway, Burnt Canoe is more than just a brand, it's a way of life, and, now, others can be a part of it as well.

The LENS

The LENS is the New Orleans area’s first nonprofit, nonpartisan public-interest newsroom, dedicated to unique investigative and explanatory journalism.

Their mission is to educate, engage and empower readers with information and analysis necessary for them to advocate for a more transparent and just governance that is accountable to the public.

The aim of The LENS is to report stories that others aren’t or can’t. Increasingly, traditional newsrooms are facing budget cuts and have been curtailing longterm investigative reporting because it tends to be the most expensive kind of work. They’re here to fill that gap. Without the pressures of filling a daily newspaper or newscast, staff can dedicate significant time and effort into deeply reporting and analyzing information.

As an advocate for openness, The LENS provides readers with the source documents used in their reporting, inviting them to check and challenge their work, or to build on it through their own research.

Gretchen Weller Howard

Gretchen Weller Howard was born and raised in New Orleans, LA. A self-described colorist, she employs both symbols and color to communicate the deeply personal meaning of each work. Her early focus included graphic design and decorative painting and even now, twenty years later, elements of both disciplines can still be seen in her mixed media abstracts. Over the years, she has developed a distinct vocabulary of images to describe the emotional threads that tie her work together.

Today Gretchen’s work still primarily revolves around birds and boats, but the meanings have shifted and grown to take on a new, rich, and ever evolving language. They have both become vessels through which an idea is conveyed, and together with a supporting cast of symbolic characters, a story is told and a mystery unfolds.

Wild Honey Tattoo

Wild Honey Tattoo is a private studio established by Adie Morton & Carly Elliott. Their goal is to provide a safe, comfortable, and relaxing space to provide tattoos to their community. Both artists have backgrounds in fine arts, and came to tattooing as a way to sustain a life while being constantly immersed in their passion for visual art.

Carly has been passionate about tattooing for over a decade, and finds immense joy in pursuing her dreams of working full time in the tattoo community. She has a formal background in painting, from which she draws the majority of her inspiration, including classical art and fine line illustration. Her objective as a tattooer is to create an experience that is positive, self-affirming, and inclusive. She loves collaborating with her clients to create a beautiful, ever-lasting adornment that incorporates nature, history, and our own personal stories.

Adie enjoys tattooing illustrative designs with an often dream-like and playful quality. She sees tattoos as a way to claim agency over our temporary vessels, whether we are adorning with important messages, hidden symbols, or simply decorating our skin to feel good about our bodies.

She feels passionate about offering tattoos to her queer community, with sliding scale options for trans and BIPOC community members, in recognition of the challenges increasingly faced by marginalized humans in a capitalistic world.

Both artists handle their books separately through instagram, at @carlytats and @adieyatty. Individuals without instagram can email the studio wildhoneytattoostudio@gmail.com to inquire about making an appointment. They do not accept walk-in appointments.
